H.W.'s Memoirs of a Zombie Apocalypse was an extremely personal and cathartic project for Andrew, and he was compelled to reinforce the apocalyptic vibe of the aural film with the artwork. While he was writing the story and music for the record, he pictured what it would look like if it were actually on film, and he saw black and white (presumably inspired by his favorite horror film of all time, George A. Romero's masterpiece Night of the Living Dead. Once the decision was made for bleak black and white photography, Andrew got to work acquiring the appropriate pictures and photoshopping the hell out of them. The artwork shown below is from the REDUX edition of Memoirs, which is now considered the definitive encarnation of the recording.
