The lyrics for Strange Bedfellows are really just concrete manifestations of the original sounds and noises that occupied the scratch tracks for the majority of Daniel's songs. A fanatic for melody, Daniel built most tracks upon vocal melodies he'd make up over the instrumentals he created first. These vocal melodies were usually nothing but gibberish that occasionally were actual words. These actual words made it into the final album, while the gibberish was converted into actual words. This is a common form of songwriting that other musicians such as James Hetfield (Metallica) and Jonsi (Sigur Ros) employ. On Jonsi's Sigur Ros album ( ), that "gibberish" ended up making the final cut and was the basis for the false language "Hopelandic". Because these lyrics were often made up on the spot, Daniel had a hard time remembering what he sang, and there are lyrics on this album that are 100 percent written wrong because he could not remember the words he sang. One song with an actual narrative is "The Monarch". The tune is about a coup on a king, and that coup is perpetrated by his son. The lyrics mostly serve the melody of the song, but to keep them making sense Daniel passed through them and changed a few words around so it would become a complete, readable sentence. He did this with all the songs and out of it a few themes sprang up. Those, however, are up to the listener to parse out.

Take Off

For yourself? For yourself and I take off

For yourself and I go

For yourself and I take off

And I want you to come inside again

And I want you singing songs again

For yourself? For yourself and I take off.

Those Wretched Trees

Pale Horse

When we talked

When we talked about the birds

And all the things that could go wrong

And then they did

Oh my god, it's growing bigger than before

There's a bog across my road

And it's growing bigger than before

There's a bog across my little black road

And it's growing bigger than before.

Chroma Key

And I saw my brother say:

"My chroma key-like view omits black and white"

Deep body down, and there's people to drown.

The Monarch

Take me on...

What coup do you plan on

Unleashing on our family

My second son

Take me on

My second son

*Anguish*.

Guernica

The ruins of Giza

Should take compliments

Even if a blizzard came forth...

Thought I'd be great like Guernica

Dreams of Guernica

No, no, no, Guernica, my art bleeds to be you

Proper works, blue period

Cubist structure

Beautiful

Dreams of Guernica

No, no, no, Guernica, my art bleeds to be you

Never was whole.

In The Morning I Stay

Hey, there's the one

There's the one you're searching

Hey, there's the one

There's the one you're looking for

In the morning I stay...

In the morning I stay...

In the morning I stay...

In the morning I stay....

Bourgeoisie

They're not your friends

They're not your friends

They're not your friends

And you're never gonna see them again

Take out an empty loan

Go and buy a simple tool

To patch up the paper walls

And keep them from eavesdropping

And hearing our low-rent plan

To evacuate them all

From my semi-circle of friends turned enemies

What is the best way to silence them all up for good?

Maybe I'll break a sweat, and even think before I shoot

How funny...I gave them a pill

How funny...it was a placebo

To innoculate the bourgeoisie

Take out an empty loan

Go and buy a simple tool

To patch up the paper walls

And keep them from eavesdropping

And hearing our low-rent plan

To evacuate them all

From my semi-circle of friends turned enemies

What is the best way to silence them all up for good?

Maybe I'll break a sweat, and even think before I shoot

They're not your friends

They're not your friends

They're not your friends

And you're never gonna see them again.

Inner Light

There's a part of me that shines through

Right to you

Suffering

For change

Yeah, right

Because...

There's a part of me that shines through

Right to you

"I looked in, didn't see it...".

Dalliance

A dignified, "Dare I say..."

She locked the front doorway

No key under the mat

Just a dissatisfied voice message

"You were there, but you weren't here".

The Moral Principal

Hands washed by luck

God's name in vain

Just don't be happy

For your love after you.

Daydream Castles

Without a care

Without a care to speak of

Speak of

Yeah...

It's okay.
